Is Netflix destroying movie theaters?

Will Netflix and other movie streaming websites be the end of going to the movie theaters? I think that this could go either way, really. There are some people who have gotten addicted to watching movies from the comfort of their own home which can become a habit. There are also people who don't really like Netflix or movie streaming websites or don't use them, but who still like to watch movies so they still go to the theatre. There are also people like myself who do both and enjoy both equally. There are perks to either side. If you stay home and watch a movie on your computer or TV, you don't have to be in public or worry about other people being around you and you can just relax. Going to see a movie in theaters is different because it can be more exciting and more fun if you enjoy being out of the house. Movie streaming websites don't usually release brand new movies either, so if you want the latest and greatest movies you have to go see them in theaters instead of at home. I do think that more people nowadays prefer to stay home and watch Netflix, which could possibly be leaving a dent in movie theaters wallets. I do not think however that Netflix will end the movie theaters for good. What do you think?

  1. I do not think that Netflix will end movie theaters because they do not get the latest movies, like you said. I do think on the other hand that Netflix will take over tv because it is easier, no commercials, and you can watch almost any show you want.

  2. I agree with Caroline on this. With Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and probably a bunch more of streaming websites, soon TV will no longer exist. With streaming sites, you can watch anything at anytime, unlike TV where you have to wait for a specific time for when your show or movie comes on. However, I don't think that movie theaters will be gone anytime soon. Sites like Netflix only get new movies a while after its released so the only place to see it first would be the movie theater. Also, there's this feeling you get of going to the theater to watch a movie that just doesn't feel the same as sitting at home and watching a movie there.

  3. I disagree I feel that one day Netflix will take over movies. I feel as should new movies will start coming on there instead of theaters I think it would be cheaper and more profitable

  4. While less people are going out to see movies, I don't think theaters will completely vanish. Some movies are worth seeing in the theater, such as Star Wars, super hero films, or an adaptation of your favorite book. Even if you have the patience to wait for the movie to go on Netflix, there are people who are too excited to wait. Other than the type of movie you're seeing, there's also something magical about watching a movie in the theater. For one thing, you're surrounded by high quality sound and not some sub par sound from an old speaker. There's also seeing the movie an a huge screen. something about seeing it on the computer makes it less magnificent. While more people are using Netflix, nobody can deny that seeing a movie in theaters is an experience everyone should have.

  6. I think movie theaters will always be around. Most filmmakers think of the cinema experience when they make their movies (for a long time, that was the only way to see movies). I do think that Netflix and other streaming services pose a large threat to physical home media sales (DVD and Blu-Ray) and that those may be obsolete in a few years (though it makes me sad).
